What Size of Wreath Fits My Door?

Are you uncertain about which size of wreath would look best on your front door?

This quick article provides some basic guidelines to consider when making decisions about what size wreath to display.

For starters -
Standard exterior entry doors are 36"
wide by 80" (or 6.75 ft.) tall.

Width of the wreath:

A wreath 24" in diameter will allow for 6" of door surface on each side of the wreath, a good general guideline.

For an understated appearance:
20" diameter wreath

For a bold appearance: 30" diameter wreath

In the example below, you see a 22" diameter wreath on a standard 36" wide door A, leaving
7 inches on each side.
Door B shows a vertical door swag 28" long by 16" wide, leaving 10" of open door space on each side of the wreath.

Both styles have a proportionally pleasing appearance.

These next two samples show wreaths on a larger entry door 36" wide by 96" tall (8 ft).

These wreaths are also 22 inches in diameter, leaving 7" of door space on each side.

Due to the added height of the door, the 22" wreaths appear to be a bit smaller but still a beautiful door display.  While a  24" wreath might be the perfect addition to a taller door, wreaths 22-30" inches in diameter will make a balanced display on your door.

Wreaths should be hung at eye level. This is typically 12-14" from the top of the door.
If there is a step up into your home, you might find that 14" is the better vertical spacing when viewed from a distance.

In the next article we'll explore the various wreath styles for your front entry door.
