Are you uncertain about which  size of wreath would look best on your front door? This quick article provides some basic guidelines to consider when making decisions about what size wreath to display.  For starters -  Standard exterior entry doors are 36" wide by 80" (or 6.75 ft.) tall.  Width of the wreath:  A wreath 24" in diameter will allow for 6" of door surface on each side of the wreath, a good general guideline.  For an understated appearance:  20" diameter wreath For a bold appearance: 30" diameter wreath In the example below, you see a 22" diameter wreath on a standard 36" wide door A, leaving  7 inches on each side. Door B shows a vertical door swag 28" long by 16" wide, leaving 10" of open door space on each side of the wreath.   This is an outdoor DIY task! Plan to clean and cure at least 3 dozen pine cones if you are going to make the time and effort to do this project.  If you only need a small number of pine cones, then it might make more sense to buy what you need.  Supplies: Pine cones White Vinegar Large bucket or pail Water Oven Process: Gently tap pine cones on hard flat surface, like a sidewalk, driveway or deck. Knock out the loose debris as much as possible. Fill bucket with 1 part white vinegar to 5 parts water. Add pine cones. Allow to soak for 30 minutes.  They will close up when wet.  Remove pine cones from water and allow to dry. Tap pine cones again on hard surface to remove any remaining debris. Line cookie trays with foil. This is very important as the pine cones may release a gooey resin when they bake. Lay pinecones on cookie trays. Pine cones are readily available in local craft stores, but flocking your own provides these advantages: -choose the size of pine cones you need  -control the amount of flocking you prefer -upcycle items from the natural environment -exercise while picking up pine cones -save money if you flock a large quantity -great "helper" project for school age children disadvantages: -takes time and patience -can be messy -have to locate at least one available pine tree with the type of pine cones you want to use Flocking pine cones is a relatively simple task.
